HISTORY

The Colorado Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has again joined the national scholarship program and is awarding 20 scholarships throughout Colorado. This scholarship program, started in 1999 in Colorado, has 30+ scholarships available, so the odds of a qualified senior in each district is fairly good!

ELIGIBILITY

1. Students must be a rising or graduating senior with a 3.0 GPA.

2. It is preferred that students pursue a degree in natural resources, wildlife management or agriculture at a four-year accredited university. Applicants must support the preservation of the hunting tradition and actively participate in the hunting sports.

3. Students must be active in school activities related to conservation. (i.e. F.F.A., 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Ecology Club, etc.)

4. Students must demonstrate ability as a leader among his or her peers.

5. Students must submit an essay and autobiography. (see application)

6. Three letters of recommendation must be attached to the application. (i.e. teachers, community leaders, coaches, but not from parents or guardians.)

SELECTION PROCESS

1. High schools/students in the chapter's area must submit a scholarship application and qualifications on an official application by February 1st to:

2. Local chapter officers must review students' qualifications and select winners that have met and/or exceeded eligibility requirements by January 15, 2008.

3. Local chapter presidents must forward all local winners to Rich Idler with all information by February 1, 2008. The state officers must review all local candidates and select a state winner by February 15, 2008.

4. State chapter presidents must forward state winners to the NWTF National Headquarters by March 1, 2008. The NWTF selection committee will select the National winner by April 15th.

Local winners will receive $250

State Winners will receive $1,000

The National winner will receive $10,000

RULES

Students may use their scholarship at any four year accredited university of their choice. The money must be used for tuition, books, fees, room and board. Checks will be made out to the university. This is a one time award for one year.

Local scholarships will be presented by the local Chapter Presidents.

State scholarships will be presented by the State Chapter President.

The national scholarship will be presented by the NWTF national staff, board chairman, state and local chapter presidents.

The national winner will be asked to attend the national convention for the following year to be recognized at the awards banquet and Remington breakfast. Expenses will be paid by the NWTF.
