Lyons Call Maker Earns Award at NWTF Convention
3/10/2008
ATLANTA - Grand National Call Making Contest judges graded
hundreds of game calls on appearance and sound quality before crowning the
champions during the National Wild Turkey Federation's annual Convention and
Sport Show in Atlanta, Ga., Feb. 22nd to Feb. 24th.
After a panel of
call making, calling and hunting experts judged the entries, Richard C.
Raybourn of Lyons, Colo., earned 3rd place in the Decorative Box Call (solid,
one-piece box and lid of natural wood, not glued, not painted, not carved)
category of the Decorative Turkey Call division of the NWTF's Grand National
Call Making Contest.
Some of the world's best call makers showcased
their work during the convention in front of thousands of sportsmen and women
who understand how a call is supposed to look and sound. The NWTF call making
competition is considered the largest and best known of its kind.
"Call
makers enter our contest because it's North America's premier call making
contest and if they can win this contest, they know they're the best there is,"
said Rob Keck, NWTF CEO.
Contestants competed in Decorative Turkey Call,
Hunting Turkey Call, Decorative Duck and Goose Call and Hunting Duck and Goose
Call categories. After the contest, the calls are auctioned at the convention,
raising thousands of dollars for conservation.

About the
NWTF:
In 1973, when the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded,
there were an estimated 1.3 million wild turkeys and 1.5 million turkey
hunters. Thanks to the work of wildlife agencies and the NWTF many volunteers
and partners, today there are more than 7 million wild turkeys and nearly 3
million turkey hunters. Since 1985, the NWTF and its cooperators have spent
more than $258 million upholding hunting traditions and conserving more than
13.1 million acres of wildlife habitat.
The NWTF is a nonprofit
organization with more than 550,000 members in 50 states, Canada, Mexico and 14
other foreign countries. It supports scientific wildlife management on public,
